Welcome to LeafOS Wiki

Hello!! Thank you for visiting this wiki

This wiki intends to guide about various procedures regarding installation, debugging and other information.

Getting Started

Make sure you have the following requirements described below

  • A bootloader-unlocked device
  • An PC with configured ADB & Fastboot drivers and utilities
  • A COMPLETE BACKUP (incase anything goes wrong)
  • Latest LeafOS Recovery and Rom
  • Use LeafOS Recovery ONLY
  • Vanilla Edition is meant to be used WITHOUT GAPPS
  • My builds of LeafOS come with some additions which can be found here

Flavors

LeafOS officially provides three flavours of the rom, I follow the same and provide all of them. They are microG, GMS and VANILLA

A brief description about the flavours -

1.VANILLA - Vanilla flavor does not include any GAPPS

2.GMS - GMS flavor includes GAPPS

3.microG - microG is an open source implementation of Google's proprietary GAPPS

What are GAPPS?

Google apps are the proprietary Google-branded applications that come pre-installed with most Android devices, such as the Play Store, Gmail, Maps, etc. Due to licensing restrictions, these apps cannot come pre-installed with LineageOS and must be installed separately. The Google apps are not required to boot or run LineageOS, however many users find them beneficial to take full advantage of the Android ecosystem.

These apps have been packaged by developers independent of LineageOS, and download links have been provided for your convenience only. It is possible to perform a “backup” of the Google apps on your device and then “restore” them, but this does take additional steps which are not covered here.

What is microG?

microG is a open source, free software re-implementation of Google’s proprietary libraries.

It imitates and functions like Google's proprietary services. As we all know, due to Google's vast data collection and telemetry, user privacy is non-existent. Here microG comes into play, it minimizes analytics to Google. Which is better.

But it might not support everything, like Play Integrity for example.
